	INSPECTORS AGREE THAT HERRIES SCHOOL APPROACH TO PASTORAL CARE IS EXCELLENT! (23 June 2013)
	Following an inspection by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (ISI) in May, Herries’ approach to pastoral care and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of its pupils has been given a seal of approval by the inspectors. These are just some of the aspects of life at Herries that the ISI report describes as ‘excellent’ – the highest category that can be awarded.

	The inspectors visited the school in May. All areas of the school, including the quality of academic and other achievements, the quality of pupils’ personal development and the effectiveness of governance, leadership and management were judged during the inspection.

	“The ISI inspection is very comprehensive and a thorough assessment of the quality of education we provide at Herries. We pride ourselves in taking a holistic approach to each child’s education and creating a nurturing environment for all of our pupils. Recent stories in the national press have highlighted just how important it is for children to learn right from wrong, how to fail as well as to succeed and to feel confident about themselves without becoming over confident, ” said Sophie Green, who took over the headship of the school in September 2011.

	Some highlights from the report include: ‘Herries School successfully fulfils its aims to enable pupils to find joy in learning and to prepare each one as a unique individual to live a happy, purposeful and balanced life.’ ‘Pupils of all ages, including those in the Early Years Foundation Stage, are well educated, enjoy school and make good progress. All staff are committed to the care and well being of the pupils in their charge.’ ‘Sport, music and drama, together with a range of visits and activities and the good curriculum, enhance the pupils’ learning and development. Their behaviour and positive attitudes also contribute to their effective progress. Head teacher, Sophie Green says that the school is already looking forward to the next academic year: “The last two years have been incredibly busy for staff, parents and pupils as the school has moved forward. Pupil numbers continue to grow and we are now reaping the benefits of new tracking and teaching methods that have been implemented.” The next Open Morning at Herries is on Wednesday, 26^th June.
