5th September Guides and Brownies from all over the country joined together at various venues to celebrate one hundred years of Guiding. Guides were originally set up by Robert Baden-Powell when the girls said that they wanted to have the same as the scouts. There was a gathering of over one thousand people at Furze Platt school which included the packs from Cookham. There were an enormous amount of activities both inside and outside and there was a happy atmosphere everywhere you went. | |||||

One of the highlights was when Brenda Boothman along with her husband Dennis were presented with the golden Berkshire Stag in recognition of their work over the last thirty years which included running the Guide store. This was given to them as part of the finale before everyone departed to celebrate the next one hundred years. |
