One of London’s finest and most versatile professional Jazz Bands struck exactly the right note on Friday night for the Cookham Festival. Clint’s Jazz Band took us step by step from soft jazz classics, through foot-tapping swing, exciting bee-bop and then into a first-rate evening of popular dancing.
Such a smooth performance was quite irresistible. When coupled with congenial night-club style table seating and the Festival’s very own “Speakeasy” (also known as the well-run bar), the event was a swinging success.
The band swung its way through some great classics such as “Fly me to the moon” and “All or nothing at all”, through some definitive jazz masterpieces such as “Scrapple from the Apple” and then by the time the short break was finished, they had a packed dance floor to an assortment of Elvis, The Beatles and ABBA, all performed in their own unique upbeat style.
It is almost invidious to pick out any soloists however the vocalist and saxophonist were quite outstanding.
The event finished with a happy audience commenting to Anne Glover (the organiser) that this surely must become an annual rather than biennial event!
