Your countryside - Your voice

CPRE works for a beautiful and living countryside. It  is active locally, nationally and internationally. Membership is open to all.

CPRE is the only independent organisation concerned with the care and improvement of England's countryside.  Our principal weapons are careful research, constructive ideas, reasoned argument and a knowledge of how to get things done.  Our business is lobbying and real influence.

COOKHAM AND BISHAM CPRE
The Cookham an Bisham District Group of the CPRE was first up over 42 years ago with the prime objective of protecting the beauty of the Cookhams, the Thames Valley and the surrounding areas.  The District Group is one of six similar groups in Berkshire all of which together form the Berkshire Branch.

During the past four decades the District Group has striven to protect the local area from over development, to protect the Green Belt, to prevent the gradual erosion of the remaining green areas.  It has kept a watching brief on local gravel extraction activities, woodlands and hedgerows as well as footpaths and commercial developments such as telecommunication masts and motorway service areas.

Help and advice is always available, free of charge, on planning matters and environmental issues which concern local residents.

The officers of the local district group are:-

CHAIRMAN

Mrs Margaret Cubley

01628 825042

VICE CHAIR Mrs Nancy Park 01628 482307
TREASURER & SOCIAL SECRETARY Mrs Patricia Burstall 01628 482754

The executive committee meets 6 times a year and is composed of 3 officers plus 4/5 elected members.  Additional members may be co-opted from time to time to fill specialist knowledge/skills gaps within the committee. The Annual General Meeting is held in May.

The District is affiliated to a number of other local environmental and interest groups and supports local events and activities where possible. During 2000 CPRE will be supporting the Annual Cookham Dean Show and the Millennium Pageant on Marsh Meadow.

In addition  thc local group raises funds through organising a number of social events and excursions. The funds raised are directed towards supporting local environmental projects and initiatives.  The most recent of these being a co-operative project with the RSPB to provide nest boxes in Bisham Woods and for local schools. The Group is currently helping to fund the sign for Bisham Church and has helped to replace the historic milestones in Bisham and in Marlow.

The Group is keen to learn of other local projects which might benefit from additional support.  Applications can be directed to the Chairman for consideration by the committee.

For further information contact the Chairman, Margaret Cubley on Tel/Fax 01628 825042.
