COOKHAM DEAN BOXING
DAY GAMES 2006 – RESULTS
The
results of the annual Boxing Day Games, organised by The Kaffirs of Cookham Dean and held on the Old Cricket Common,
Cookham Dean between 10.00 and 12.00 on 26 December 2006, were as follows:
The
Winners, Dynamo 5 Elms, were awarded the prestigious “Loo Seat”, an
old wooden toilet seat which carries shields for every winner since 1968.
It was initially presented for the Boxing Day inter-pub football
match that preceded the current annual games.
The games, which are kept secret until the day of the contest,
included a blindfold back to back race, a spiders and string game, a
toboggan challenge, egg throwing and concluded with the usual obstacle
race in which the eleven teams of eight players must go under a rope, over
a wall of bales, through a hoop, under a scrambling net and then recover a
satsuma from a bath of water using only their mouths. The
separate Tug O’War trophy was won by the “Old Uncle Toms” team who
beat Dynamo 5 Elms in the final pull.
The 1st Cookham Scout Leaders & Explorers team, who
have virtually made the trophy their own in recent years, were
surprisingly knocked out by the eventual winners in an early round. Organiser,
Peter Austen, said “The games had been one of the best ever with strong
but friendly competition throughout the morning.
“We were very lucky with the weather which stayed dry throughout
and had a good crowd of spectators whose strong vocal support provided
great encouragement to their teams. “The
event raised £400 which The Kaffirs will add to its fund used to help
provide some special assistance for the local needy this winter.
“I should like to thank all those who made the effort to turn out
early on Boxing Day morning for their continued support of the games.” More information from Peter Austen Tel 01628 482201 or mobile 07802 216241 |
