Could such a thing happen in Cookham? Well, Stanley Spencer thought it could, but this dramatic performance at the Pinder Hall owes comparatively little to Spencer and rather more to an Hungarian film on a similar subject, and to Michael Johnson’s not always entirely serious imagination. He has assembled a cast of enquiring Cookham people to consider the proposition, supported by recordings made by several Cookham Worthies with music sung by members of the Cantorum Choir.
