Crime: 28 October 2013

A REALLY GOOD WEEKEND.  VERY LITTLE CRIME TO REPORT !

HALLOWEEN !

As everyone knows, Halloween is on Thursday.  The police do produce a purple A4 poster to say – please do not call here on Halloween.  In the past we have found that houses displaying these posters are more likely to be egged than others.  Bexley Street NHW Scheme many years ago suggested the more positive approach of Halloween – yes please – call here !

So – I have attached the NHW poster.  Please display it if you want people to call and display a pumpkin at your gate.

PC Graham Slater our schools officer has been round to the schools and held sessions with the kids re Halloween and the fear it can cause elderly and vulnerable people.  They have been advised only to call at houses displaying positive Halloween posters.  The RBWM and Police Licensing teams have been out visiting Licensees reminding them not to provide alcohol to underage customers.  The Police Neighbourhood Teams and the RBWM Community wardens, have been to all the supermarkets / grocery shops in the area, asking them not to provide quantities of eggs and flour to underage customers.  The police will be mounting additional resources on Halloween and we would therefore appreciate calls from you to direct them as accurately as possible.  If you see groups of youths gathering or anyone throwing fireworks in a public place, phone the PEC asap on the 101 number.  Help us to help you.

I have attached loads of useful posters and advice.
Lots of feedback re the road accident scam.  It appears dozens of you have received calls and have been, for the last month at least !:

Dear Jeffrey

Just to confirm as requested, I received a call from someone quoting the same company with the same request. I asked where they got my details from, as there have been no accidents in the household and needless to say after several more questions about who they were, they rang off!

Thanks & regards,

Trudy.

Ears open – just put the phone down and don’t worry that a member of your family has been involved in an accident.

NEXT A WARNING ABOUT THE PICKPOCKETS THAT TARGET OUR TOWN CENTRES:

Hi Jeff,

A friend had her purse stolen out of her handbag in Peascod Street early afternoon on Wednesday.  Can you warn everyone that there are 'pick pockets' about in the town centre please?

Also, there were some items of great sentimental value in her purse, so is there any way everyone, could keep a look out for an abandoned black purse with a 'leopard skin' panel on the front please?  I know this is a long shot (she has reported it to the police) but I thought it was worth a try on her behalf.

Many thanks.

Fiona

PC Pete Bullett, who is part of the Ascot Neighbourhood Team, has forwarded an Alert from Surrey Police to me.  It had a really good newsletter from Surrey Trading Standards.  They get as many scams as we do over the border, so I have attached it, I felt it was useful, as they could shortly be here.  The ‘Off Licence’ scam has happened here several times – particularly on the run up to Christmas.  Pass the newsletter onto everyone you know so that they are protected as well.

Thanks Pete.

Next I have had reports of people hare coursing:

Hi Jeff,
Please can you let everyone know, so that they can be on the lookout for hare coursers, who are active in area south of Maidenhead, off Drift Road, on Wednesday night 23rd October.  Dead hares were found and damage to gates and crops caused by a Subaru which was identified by damaged parts left after a collision with a manhole.
Can everyone please report any activities of this nature, as Thames Valley Police have agreed to make rural crime a priority and hare coursing, is a clearly criminal activity.
William.

Thanks William.
