COURIER SCAM DEVELOPMENTS:
On the TV over the weekend, there were reports that the Courier Scam has developed.  Not only do they ask for your credit cards in an envelope, but they also suggest that you bag up your jewellery and other valuable items for ‘safekeeping’ and hand them to the courier.  In one case, they went to the house to assist in wrapping valuable paintings.

A warning message once again, from Supt Kate Ford – our LPA Commander:

The Police, Banks and Card providers will never contact you in this manner. These are organised criminals who are trying to steal your money. If you receive such a call hang up. Then ring the Police and your bank on a different phone to confirm you are speaking to the genuine organisation. If you do not have a separate phone ring a relative or friend and if you do not get them or their answer phone you know the offenders are still on the phone trying to defraud you.

Never hand you card over to a third party in this way.
This crime type is not peculiar to RBWM it is occurring nationally. Please report to the Police as soon as you can any attempt to extort money from you in this manner. Crime stoppers etc.

Regards
Kate Ford
Superintendent
LPA Commander Windsor and Maidenhead

7/2  Friday 1 p.m. / 2.40 p.m.  Rushington Avenue.  An unknown man called at the door to say the owner had a leaky gutter which he would fix for £200.  The owner agreed.  The job when examined by the builder, became bigger and bigger with damaged tiles and damaged jointing which all needed replacing – for much more money.  He went and fetched a mate to do the work.  The owners became suspicious, because the roof had only been repaired a year ago – and asked them to leave – which they did.
