HOT WEATHER – SUMMER BURGLARY CAMPAIGN:

Can I remind everyone out our Summer Burglary Campaign ?  That deals with windows and patio doors left open for ventilation:
You can only leave a window open if you are in that room.  Sometimes, people leave windows open on the front and rear of a house, to improve airflow.  Unfortunately, that puts you at risk from a reach in burglary.
Rear doors must be locked if you are working in the garden.  That means each time, you go in and out.  Opportunists, may hear a mower / hedge trimmer being used and assume the rear door has been left open.  They walk down any side access and try the rear / side door.  If it is unlocked, they brazenly open it and walk in.  Generally, they find ladies handbags on the kitchen counter, which they take.  They aren’t worried in the least if you walk back in.  They are prepared.  You walk in and find them.  You will be shocked and ask who they are and what are they doing in your home !  They immediately respond – I am here to meet John / David / Mark – whatever.  You will respond – who are they ?  They then say – doesn’t John / David / Mark – whatever live here ?  You say NO !  They then say – Sorry, wrong house and leave immediately.  It is only a few minutes later, you recover from the shock and look around to find items stolen !!!
Sheds and garages.  As we are now all working in our gardens, sheds and garages are targeted for garden tools, particularly mowers – sit on a prime target.  Hedge trimmers and leaf blowers are also stolen.  To prevent this happening, please property mark these items.  That is your postcode and the first three letters of your house name / number.  Please do this as visibly as possible.  Bright paint please.  That makes the items unsaleable at Car Boot sales and online sales outlets.  Make it a day with your children / grandchildren.  Paint flowers all over them.  They will never be stolen and each time you use them – you will have those pleasant memories.

NEXT: A DISTRACTION THEFT IN A SUPERMARKET CAR PARK:
18/6  Saturday 12.10 p.m. Ascot.  As the aggrieved reversed their car to leave a supermarket car park, a man stopped them and said that they had a problem with one of their front tyres.  The aggrieved got out, bent down to look and thanked him, as there was a slight scrape on the metal.  While this was happening, an accomplice opened the passenger door and removed the aggrieved’s purse and mobile phone, from her bag.  About half-an-hour later, the aggrieved realised that their iPhone, credit card and supermarket card were all missing.  They contacted the card company, who confirmed that there had been several unsuccessful attempts to withdraw money, as well as actual expenditure made in Staines.  £1250 had been spent in a second hand IT equipment store and £9.35 in a takeaway.  Ref. Help water your local trees

Young trees on the verges of your street can suffer during a heatwave. There is no rain forecast for the rest of June, but you can help them to thrive by watering them with water from a tap or water butt a few times a week.

We water saplings for a number of years to help them establish, but when the temperature is higher than usual and particularly for prolonged periods, some of our young trees might enjoy a little more water and extra watering is welcomed. Thank you.

NEXT:  A report form a resident in Ascot of fly tipping outside their house – the second time in three weeks.  Someone has dumped black bin liners of rubbish outside their home.  Flytipping is a pernicious problem.  It is the responsibility of householders, to ensure that their rubbish is properly and appropriately disposed of.  If a contractor is used, it is again the householder’s responsibility to ensure the contactor is licenced to dispose of the rubbish appropriately - and that they do so.  If they take the rubbish and flytip it and anything in the rubbish can be traced back to the householder – there is a hefty fine !!!  Please bear this in mind, if someone cold calls to do garden / tree work and they take the cuttings away with them.  In this case, inside the bags were envelopes, with a name and address !!!!!

Borough’s first World Café in Dedworth, was a great success

Some 70 people attended the Royal Borough’s first World Café on Wednesday, held in Woody’s Café at Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground in Windsor.

Residents had honest conversations with a range of local organisations and support groups to find ways to help people cope with the current rise in the cost of living. The best ideas often come from informal discussions.

These organisations included public health, libraries, social prescribers, Healthwatch, Optalis, Thames Hospice, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue, Windsor Foodshare, Windsor Cycle Hub, and People to Places. Legoland, which is supporting all the events, provided the raffle prize of a family ticket. All attendees also received a free goody bag containing food provided by the West Windsor Hub.

There are plans to hold these free World Cafes in every ward across the Borough:

The next one will be held in Hurley Village Hall on 21st July 2022 – 12.- 2.30 p.m.

Then:- Cookham Library for Bisham & Cookham, Pinkneys Green 9 venue and date to be announced), Cox Green Library - for Cox Green, Furze Platt Memorial Hall – for Furze Platt, Bray Village Hall for – Bray etc.

18/6  Saturday 1 p.m.  Hungerford Lane, Shurlock Row, Reading.  Report of an alarm sounding and two men jumping over a fence in front of a witness, who heard the alarm.  They jumped onto and made off across the fields on a black & white moped towards Hurst & Twyford via the Straight Mile.  One was seen carrying a bag, believed to contain stolen laptops and electrical items.  A house had been broken into via a forced rear patio door.  Jewellery and bank / credit cards stolen.  There has been extensive use of the cards.  The moped was caught on various CCTV systems, but it was displaying index plates from a Dacia Sandero, stolen in March 2022.
