Title: RBWM Tall Building policy to affect Cookham.
Post by: Cookham Webmaster on September 20, 2022, 02:18:46 PM
From Paul Strzelecki. Resident.

RBWM Tall Building policy to affect Cookham. Your chance to comment on whether you object or support tall buildings in your village.
RBWM has issued a public consultation on what is called an SPD (Supplementary Planning Document) on tall buildings. Responses are due by 11th October.
It is a long and complicated document describing the methodology of “densification” via tall buildings. However, you will find in section 5 table 5.1 references to the potential for tall buildings at the railway station and on the yet to be approved and built 200 homes on the west side of Cannondale Road just after Whyteladies Lane, also known as the “200 Estate” (it was allocated in the Local Plan approved earlier this year on land released from the Greenbelt,). The formal application for this estate is expected later this year.
The whole of Cookham Rise could technically be impacted by this policy. The stated potential is for tall buildings to “mark” the railways station and to “emphasise” the 200 Estate.
If you have a view on the tall building potential building in Cookham, or indeed want to comment on the 25-storey potential in Maidenhead or the tall building opportunity at Spencer’s Fam (330 new homes) just outside Maidenhead, I suggest you read the SPD relevant section and submit comments. It is a little tortuous to comment but such is the way these matters are presented to the public. Your views will however be considered.

The Cookham Society has responded vigorously to the RBWM Draft Building Heights & Tall Buildings Planning Document which outlines proposals by the Borough to encourage taller buildings to be erected near Cookham Station. This is entirely unsuitable for a village location and we have urged the Council to drop the idea.
