Title: Family History Category Post by: Cookham Webmaster on April 07, 2019, 07:22:43 PM It has been often thought how useful and popular something like A Cookham Family History could be, considering how many family trees there are for Cookham families on Ancestry etc
It is planned to attract specific queries to help serious researchers and not just the type who would, on a whim, just ask if anyone knows anything about a particular family in order to pick people's brains without doing any work. If anyone asks a question about an ancestor, it would be helpful to the reader if they can offer some surrounding information to help identify their ancestor to another potential researcher and create more general interest and 'colour'. So, instead of asking: My gt grandmother had a sister called Jane Smith b1871- does anyone know who she married? try: I am trying to discover if my gt grandmother's sister Jane Smith ever married - if so, to whom? She was baptized in Cookham in 1871 to James and Ann Smith (nee Pearce) and would probably have married c1887-1900. Her father was a gardener at Cookham Dean in 1891 but she is not with her family in the census She may have been in service. It is an open public forum so that the many researchers of old Cookham families can help one another. For example, a couple of possibly typical questions: FOLLY My ancestor Richard Folly, believed born c1713, married Rebecca Hammerton (daughter of Robert & Ann Hammerton) at Cookham in 1737 but he was not baptised here or in the surrounding parishes. Does anyone know his origins, please? Daisy21 BRADLEY In about 1830-40 John Bradley and his wife Anne (nee Mardling) had a beer shop at Ditton, Pinkneys Green, known as the Greyhound or Grey House, which I can't find in online pub lists. Can someone please tell me exactly where this beer house was and for how long it survived? I have not heard from anyone as yet. The challenge is now to the children and grand children of those I went to school with, to dig up old and new photos of their parents and grandparents. Here are some surnames that were at Holy Trinity when I was there. Carter, Brown, Redway, Wooten, Hodges, Stone, Taylor, Kelsey, Brewer, Thomas, Weinberger, Smith, Lewendon, Lovejoy, Hutton, Smythe, There was of course a great many Hatch's who were all interrelated back through the years. Yes we did have one Malcolm Weinberger from Maidenhead Court whose family wanted their son to broaden his mind in the Christian faith. So come on folks start digging in those old family albums! It has been a while when my father died. Unfortunately, it had happened on the 30th of January, the 21st year.
