Title: THE CHEQUERS Cookham Dean Bottom Post by: Watchman on July 18, 2019, 05:31:10 PM Has anyone driven past The Chequers in Cookham Dean Bottom recently (? The Mango Lounge ?)
It's an absolute bl**dy disgrace. Dilapidated, overgrown grass and weeds, rotting outdoor furniture and allegedly, rats seen running around the vicinity. This used to be a wonderful pub and eaterie when it was the Chequers not so long back, so what's happened to it to make it the forlorn mess it is now? Cannot the owners be held responsible? Do the owners even care? I've heard a lot of hollow 'promises' of returning it to being a restaurant again, but not much evidence of that ever happening. Come on you Parish Councillors .... step in and demand that something is done? It would appease the spirit of his great grandmother who use to run it. This was after she gave up being a river Thames bargee.

Title: Re: THE CHEQUERS Cookham Dean Bottom Post by: James Hatch on July 23, 2019, 11:55:33 PM Thank Clipper. Having ones family go back to the 1700's in Cookham, and being handed down knowledge by family as they gathered a Widbrook over a Sunday tea. Little boys were seen and not heard, but I was a good listener! It was at those teas I got to hear quite a lot from my aunts conversation from their old village neighbour Sir Stanley Spencer.
