Title: Council agrees to wildflowers to encourage biodiversity Post by: RBWM Press Release on July 24, 2019, 11:45:12 AM Councillors have agreed to encourage wildlife friendly grasses, wildflowers and insect friendly plants following a motion at Full Council.
The motion, put forward by Cllr Donna Stimson, states that the Royal Borough will: Mow verges less frequently to encourage wildlife friendly grasses and flowers and of parks and open spaces to encourage biodiversity, whilst being considerate of health and safety issues with traffic. Introduce wildflowers to cheer up targeted barren sites within the borough. Introduce drought resistant insect friendly plants in key roadside areas. Cllr Donna Stimson, said: “Encouraging biodiversity, which is the variety of plant and animal life, in our borough is so important to our residents and it’s great that we are taking positive steps to improve this. “The environmental and climate emergency concerns each and every one of us and so it’s crucial that we all work together to conserve and improve the place we call home.” Last month the Council declared an environmental and climate emergency and passed a motion to reach a carbon neutral position by 2050. |
