Title: CLOSURE OF ELIZABTH HOUSE DAY CENTRE Post by: Cookham v Coronavirus on March 20, 2020, 12:49:02 PM In response to the present Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic Elizabeth House has reluctantly had to close its normal day centre activities as from 3.00 p.m. on Friday 20 March. To honour their commitment to look after their members and to support the local community, the trustees of Elizabeth House made the decision to donate their resources to create a “community hub” for Cookham for as long as the present crisis lasts.
As from Monday morning, 23 March, with the support of Cookham Edit, Cookham Voluntary Services, the Cookham Pharmacy, Cookham Surgery, Cookham.com and Holy Trinity Church, Elizabeth House will become the coordination hub for the COOKHAM SOS community support initiative set up by Jus Moody. You can find COOKHAM SOS on Facebook. Miriam Blazey, the Elizabeth House manager, will be on duty with colleagues and volunteers to coordinate the support activities. In addition to keeping in contact and supporting existing Elizabeth House members, they will be organising a rapidly growing team of volunteers to provide a wide range of key services including: • Picking up shopping. • Collecting prescriptions and other urgent supplies. • Posting mail and dog walking • Keeping in touch with a friendly ‘phone call. Volunteers will be registered, badged and will endeavour to contact people personally, but where there is no answer or someone might be self-isolating, a leaflet will be put through the door. Cookham Voluntary Services, which operates out of Elizabeth House will currently continue to operate as normal and will look to share resources with COOKHAM SOS to optimise its operations. You can learn more about COOKHAM SOS and how to volunteer your services on Facebook.
