Title: Royal Borough respite service rated good by the CQC Post by: RBWM Press Release on April 17, 2020, 12:25:41 PM A respite service which supports adults with learning difficulties in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has been rated good by the CQC following an unannounced inspection in March 2020.
The inspection rated 9 Allenby road in Maidenhead, which provides short breaks for adults with learning difficulties, good in all areas including safe, effective, responsive, well-led and caring. Inspectors reported that “relatives are very complimentary of the service”, with one describing it as “my lifeline” and others saying “I couldn’t do without Allenby” and “I can’t praise them enough”. The report highlights the team’s commitment to ensuring that those who use the short breaks service have “maximum choice and control over their lives and staff support them”. The report also notes that the service is well-managed and the people who use it are treated with dignity and respect. One of the adults the centre supports also told inspectors “I enjoy coming here. I like the staff. I like the food.” Cllr Stuart Carroll, lead member for adults, children and mental health said: “This is a wonderful result for a wonderful service. 9 Allenby Road provides a valuable short break service for residents with learning difficulties and their families. It is a vital lifeline for many and I am delighted that the hard work of the team has rightly been recognised by the CQC. “The amazing team at 9 Allenby Road, however, are not complacent and will work to implement some of the suggestions made by the CQC as they work towards making the service outstanding.” The report also highlights some of the improvements made to the garden at 9 Allenby Road, “providing an attractive and accessible outdoor area” for people who use the service. The report notes areas the team need to make improvements including completing training in Makaton, a language programme used by people with learning difficulties. Since the inspection this training has been arranged. 9 Allenby Road is run by Optalis, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s adult social care partner.
