There has been one new death recorded in Berkshire's hospitals recorded in the last 24 hours.

The latest figures released on Wednesday (May 20) reveal there has been just one new death recorded at trusts which operate Berkshire hospitals over the past 24 hours. The number of confirmed cases in Berkshire now stands at 2,324, as of 6pm on Wednesday.

Reading still has the highest number of recorded cases in the county, with 566 patients testing positive. Slough now has 446 cases.

Elsewhere, 361 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in West Berkshire, 435 in Wokingham, 279 in Windsor and Maidenhead, and 240 in Bracknell.

The figures record the death of patients who had tested positive for coronavirus or where it was mentioned on the death certificate.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust  – 327 (one new death)
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust  – 170 (one new death)
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust  - 15 (no increase)
It is important to note that some of Berkshire's NHS trusts operate hospitals outside of the county, for example Frimley Park Hospital, which is in Surrey. This means it is difficult to give an accurate total of the number of deaths in Berkshire alone.

NHS England also clarified that the COVID Patient Notification System did not operate for a period of time on Saturday (May 16).

The consequences of this situation may therefore be reflected in the number of deaths reported in these figures.
