Title: Sextortion and Crime Update Post by: Thames Valley Police on August 28, 2020, 04:37:29 PM FIRST: ANOTHER SEXTORTION CASE.
The victim received a video phone call on Wednesday evening, on a Contact App. out of the blue, from a woman he did not know. She was laying in a compromising position, unclothed and started a conversation. The victim answered a few innocuous questions, then terminated the call. Almost immediately, he received another call, from the same number. This time it was a man, who said he had a recorded a video of the conversation with the woman, which he would send to the victim’s wife and all his friends, if he did not send £2,000. The victim was totally un-cooperative and told him to do that, he would not pay any money. The victim called the police, as a string of demanding and intimidating emails followed. He still refused to co-operate or send any money. The scammer then sent screenshots of the victim’s wife’s Facebook page, to show he was serious about posting the video to all the victim’s friends and family. Has anyone else received a similar call and threat ? If so, please report it to us - in total confidence. The police cyber-crime teams have the emails and details of the App address and are fully investigating this case. To date, no video has been posted. Please be aware - some of these contact Apps do have downsides. If you do get a call like this, terminate it immediately. Though this particular potential victim was not at all intimidated or co-operative. It was intimidating. DON’T LET IT BE YOU. NEXT: I have heard from several members that they too, have had letters saying they had electrical cables running under their gardens. As well as:- Hi Re Electric cables scam. Thanks for publishing today. By the way, my friend in Freshwater IOW she and 2 of her female neighbours received a similar letter about overhead electric cables. The plot thickens. ‘B’ It is clearly therefore a scam - JUST BIN THEM CRIME PREVENTION ADVICE - RE BURGLARIES You will see from the burglaries below, the preferred point of entry, for our opportunist thieves, is rear patio doors. These are traditionally made of ‘toughened’ glass. This is the same material, as car windscreens and we all know how they shatter. If you are replacing any ground floor windows, or glass in windows on the first floor, beside single story extensions, think about replacing the glass with ‘laminated’ glass. This is available for all double glazed units as well as patio doors. It may cost a little more - it’s not a lot, but it will prevent anyone getting in that way. You will have seen how it reacts, if an attempt is made to smash it in our town centres - as shop windows, are usually laminated. It just crazes, but doesn’t break !
