The country recorded 393 new cases of Covid-19 in the seven days leading to October 2. This compares to 300 in the previous seven days to September 25. A reason for the near 100 rise is most likely due to a Public Health England data blunder which resulted in 15,841 cases not being reported for over a week in the UK. In Berkshire, the infection rate has more than doubled in Windsor and Maidenhead over a seven day period, jumping from 25.1 to 60.1 per 100,000 people. Slough has the highest infection rate in Berkshire, although it did slightly decrease from 76.9 in the seven days leading to September 25 down to 74.2. Last week there were worries that Slough could be put back onto the Government's coronavirus watchlist, with the town at one point having the highest infection rate in the south. Yet Slough was not including when the Government published its updated list on Friday, October 2. A Slough Borough Council spokesperson said Slough was not considered an 'area of concern' anymore because cases are much higher in other areas of the country, particularly in the north. |
