Over the past 6 weeks, your local Police Officers, PCSO’s, partner agencies and RBWM staff, have been working closely together, to tackle 'exploitation in our community'. The focus over the past few weeks, has been 'Knife Crime' and 'County Drug Lines'. Below is a summary, of some of the activity I wanted to bring you to your attention – Street value of drugs seized – Over £40,000 of crack, heroin, MDMA, ecstasy and cannabis. Cash seized which we are treating as the proceeds of crime – Over £7,500. Vehicles seized which have been used to enable criminality, and are also the proceeds of crime – 16. Over 400 stop and searches resulting in arrests for possession of knives and other offensive weapons, possession with intent to supply drugs and money laundering. Over 100 arrests for the above offences. 52 local residents diverted to our local drug rehabilitation programme to receive tailored support instead of being criminalised for their addiction. Working with partners, which included the 'Children’s Society', the 'Thames Valley Violence Reduction Unit', 'Reading Football Club' and 'Resilience'. to safeguard vulnerable individuals and work with businesses and schools, to develop their response to exploitation. Numerous community led park sweeps took place, recovering potential weapons. We also carried out an innovative 'Snapchat' and 'Instagram' 'Crime Stoppers Campaign', looking to reach 13-17 year olds at risk of exploitation. The above activity and other ongoing covert and overt action, will no doubt have a significant impact in our community. We continue to make the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, a hostile place for criminals. The above may give the impression RBWM is suffering from a crime wave, but in reality, this crime always goes on and will go on, unless we continue to work as a community, as we have done over past few weeks. The police alone, cannot reduce exploitation and protect the vulnerable. We need your support, to work in partnership with the community. Please report any concerns around drug dealing, knife crime, or any other type of exploitation to us. You can do so via the 101 telephone number, online at the TVP website, or if you prefer, in total anonymity, via the Crime Stoppers website. The past six weeks of intensive partnership working, are not unusual for us, but I am keen to highlight the activity going on in our community today – that way, we can work together, to create a better tomorrow.
