Post by: Cookham Webmaster on November 27, 2020, 01:34:34 PM
The M4 will be closed this weekend as work continues to turn it into a smart motorway.

The road will be shut for the entire weekend in both directions from junction 8/9 for Maidenhead to junction 10 for Wokingham/Bracknell.

The road is due to be closed from 8pm on Friday, November 27 until 6am on Monday, November 30.

Drivers are warned to expect delays and face further disruption as different sections of motorway in Berkshire will also be closed for the following two weekends.

The closures are part of Highways England £848 million plans to convert the carriageway into a smart motorway, between junction 3 for Hayes and junction 12 for Theale.

A Highways England spokesperson said: "This means there will be an additional lane for traffic which will increase capacity and reduce congestion, more technology on the road to smooth traffic flows and manage incidents and more reliable journey times."

The company which is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving England's motorways aim to finish the new smart M4 motorway ready for use in 2022.
