Unfortunately many stores told him they would not accept them and insisted that people wore a mask to shop regardless of the lanyard. They explained to him that since anyone is able to obtain the lanyard and people do not need to provide proof that they are exempt from wearing a mask, they have no way of knowing whether someone is exempt or not. My father does not want to be difficult and so is wearing a mask and complying with the rules. I am not criticising the shops at all as they are just being cautious, however it makes me sad that people are happy to exploit a well-intentioned scheme designed for people with genuine health issues!

I would have thought the people who cannot be bothered to wear a mask probably would not be bothered to buy a lanyard either in the other hand. There is really no answer to the problem..

I don't want him to lose his confidence completely about going out especially once the restrictions are relaxed. Happier times ahead hopefully! :) :)
