Slough has the highest number of coronavirus cases in Berkshire since the start of the pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, Public Health England has recorded 230 lab-confirmed cases in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures are correct as of Sunday, February 7 at 4pm, bringing the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 51,110, according to Public Health England.


The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 28 cases, 6,497 total
Wokingham - 33 cases, 7,522 total
Reading - 40 cases, 10,017 total
West Berkshire - 36 cases, 5,673 total
Slough - 55 cases, 13,731 total
Windsor and Maidenhead - 38 cases, 7,670 total

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 240.7
Wokingham - 172.4
Reading - 291.8
West Berkshire - 171
Slough - 371.8
Windsor and Maidenhead - 172.4

There have now been 3,945,680 people across the UK who have tested positive for Covid-19.

More than 12 million people in the UK have now had at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, the BBC reports.

The government is aiming to offer first doses to 15 million people in the top four priority groups by 15 February.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine may not significantly reduce the number of cases but will protect against deaths and severe disease amid the spread of the South African variant, the lead researcher behind the jab has said.

Preliminary research has suggested the vaccine offers minimal protection against mild disease caused by the variant.

But AstraZeneca said early data from the study has shown the jab can protect against severe disease caused by the mutation.
