Title: Breadcrumb News Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Commercial Vehicle Unit
Post by: Thames Valley Police on April 12, 2021, 04:58:39 PM
Following the death of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, Thames Valley Police is carrying out a number of security measures in and around Windsor.

One of these will be Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) activity and commercial vehicle checks.

The work is being carried out by officers from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing. Officers will be using Automatic Number Plate Recognition vans which will monitor vehicles travelling in and around the town.

If a vehicle triggers the ANPR technology, a separate unit parked nearby will be deployed and will stop the driver if necessary.

The Commercial Vehicle Unit will also be checking lorries, including their loads, licences and driver hours.

The work is part of Thames Valley Police’s ongoing commitment to ensure that the public is kept safe at this time of national mourning.
