Title: Berkshire coronavirus update as weekly infection rates fall in five areas

Thirty-one new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Berkshire, according to the latest official figures released on Friday evening (May 7).

The latest data from Public Health England shows Reading had the largest increase, with nine new cases, followed by West Berkshire with eight.

There were six in Slough, four in Bracknell Forest and two each in Windsor and Maidenhead and Wokingham.

The total of new cases is slightly down on the 39 recorded in yesterday's update. There were 22 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile weekly Covid-19 infection rates have fallen in five areas of Berkshire and remained the same in one - Windsor and Maidenhead.

The latest figures cover the seven days up to May 2 - the most recent weekly data available.

Nationwide, the Government said a further 15 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 127,598.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have been 152,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 2,490 lab-confirmed cases in the UK.

It brings the total to 4,431,043.

This is the latest rolling seven-day coronavirus infection rates per 100,000 people for the week ending May 2:

Bracknell Forest: 17.1 (down from 19.6)
Reading: 24.7 (down from 25.3)
Slough: 46.1 (down from 49.5)
West Berkshire: 29 (down from 26.5)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 20.5 (no change)
Wokingham: 15.2 (down from 16.4)

This is the latest breakdown of confirmed cases for each area of Berkshire since the start of the pandemic:

Bracknell Forest: 7,110 cases (four new cases)
Reading: 10,974 cases (nine new cases)
Slough: 15,585 cases (six new cases)
West Berkshire: 6,430 cases (eight new cases)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 8,535 cases (two new cases)
Wokingham: 8,266 (two new cases)

This is the latest data on the total number of deaths at NHS trusts in and around Berkshire:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 1,248 (no change)
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 501 (no change)
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 32 (no change)

Government data up to May 6 shows that of the 51,834,361 jabs given in the UK so far, 35,069,641 were first doses – a rise of 135,470 on the previous day.

Some 16,764,720 were second doses, an increase of 473,001.
