Title: Crime Update Post by: Thames Valley Police on August 20, 2021, 02:32:05 PM A VERY GOOD END TO THE WEEK
NO BURGLARIES AND NO CARS BROKEN INTO. THE ONLY CRIME TO REPORT IS A THEFT OF A BIKE. FIRST: A strange scam case – but it can easily happen. The victim is vulnerable and thinks he is therefore an easy target. To manage stress, he tried to order a ‘weed vape’. He linked up with an American online who grows and sells it. The man, asked him if he wanted a really good quality ‘vape’ and the aggrieved said yes. The man said he couldn't sell only one and that it would have to be 2. The aggrieved transferred about £300. The man said in order for it to be delivered more quickly, he would have to supply 4 vapes instead of 2. The aggrieved then transferred another £200-£300. The male then told him that there would be a clearance fee of £200, which the aggrieved transferred. There was then a call from someone saying they were the manager of the shipping service, who said the parcel had been confiscated and a fee of £400 had to be paid to clear the item. The aggrieved transferred the money. Once the money had been paid the ‘shipping manager’ phoned back to say he wasn't sure what to do with aggrieved’s parcel. The aggrieved said he didn't want anything else to do with it, because of all the money he had transferred. The shipping manager kept emailing, saying he really wanted caller to have his parcel, so the aggrieved then transferred about another £300. The shipping manager then said he had organised an agent to deliver the parcel, but the agent was saying that he didn't have any money to get from Manchester to London to deliver it could the aggrieved send yet another £200 and asked caller for £200. The aggrieved sent him £40. The next morning the aggrieved received several emails, saying the parcel had been confiscated by UK Drug Law. The emails were threatening saying that if he didn't reply within 20 minutes, they would send an agent to his home. The Manager of the shipping service then phoned to say that he could make this whole mess go away, if caller paid him £1500 as he knows people on the inside who would talk to the police - caller did not pay any further money. The aggrieved now believes none of this was genuine and is sure he has been scammed. He has sent in excess of £1500 to these people via PayPal Scams take many forms and we all need to be on our guard. If something sounds dodgy – rely on your instincts – they are there for a purpose and to protect you. Your brain receives many more messages and information that our eyes see and ears hear ! NEXT: Received from Danielle Lane, from ABRI Hi Jeff Would it be possible for you to post the attached two leaflets onto the Thames Valley Alert please ? They relate to a ‘Job Club’ and a ‘Start Your Own Business’ course now available. The Job Club will meet every Wednesday 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Pump Room, Sawyers Close, Windsor SL4 5HW and the meetings will start on 8th September. The ‘Turning an Idea into a Business’, is in the form of an online ‘Webinar’. That is a video course you log into and watch. You will have to download ‘Microsoft Teams’ onto your computer to do that. They are on: Wednesday 1/9 & Friday 3/9 for Session 1 to 3 – 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Wednesday 8/9 for session 4 – 9.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. There is a lot of after session support within this initiative. NEXT: I have received an internal memo outlining a big increase in used cooking oil theft, which is now on a national level and occurring regularly in the counties around us. If you are a business, please do not leave used cooking oil out, where it can easily be stolen, but make arrangements at this time for it to be collected legitimately. NEXT: Upcoming changes to Maidenhead Police Station front counter hours Earlier this year, Thames Valley Police held a public consultation on proposed changes to front counter services at police stations across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Following the results of this consultation, from Monday 30 August, Maidenhead Police Station’s front counter hours will be reduced from 8am-10pm, seven days a week, to 8am-4pm, Monday to Friday. This change will not affect police officer numbers, nor the number of police bases in the Thames Valley area. NEXT: From RBWM: New crossing to create safe access to Maidenhead Town Centre Work will start on Monday 16 August on a new signalised pedestrian and cycle crossing on Bad Godesberg Way, Maidenhead (A4). Part of the Missing Links cycle scheme, it will create a new, safe crossing at Kidwells Park, allowing more convenient access to the town centre. The works, mostly funded by the Thames Valley Local Enterprise Partnership, are scheduled to be completed in October. The project will require some traffic management, including lane closures on the Cookham Road and Castle Hill roundabouts. This is to ensure the works are carried out safely. However, these will be in place between 9am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday only, which will help minimise traffic queues. The works will be carried out in three phases, enabling one lane of Bad Godesberg Way in each direction to remain open throughout the project. NEXT: Reminder: Help shape our Corporate Plan There's still time to have your say in the public consultation on our draft Corporate Plan. The plan sets out the headline areas we need to focus on over the next five years to make sure everyone in the borough has the best chance in life. Once finalised, this important strategic document for the whole borough will help guide our work with partners and form part of our post-Covid recovery. You can take part in the consultation, which ends Sunday 12 September, on the RBWM together website. https://rbwmtogether.rbwm.gov.uk/rbwm-corporate-plan-consultation NEXT: From Royal berks Fire & Rescue – this results from issues of Bridge Jumping in RBWM during the hot weather Water safety advice: float to live Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding residents of the key safety advice in case of an emergency in the water. If you find yourself in trouble in the water, float to live. Don't panic. Resist the urge to thrash about. Instead, lean back and extend your arms and legs to float. Float until you can control your breathing and call for help or swim to safety. If you find someone else in trouble in water, never enter the water yourself, call 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service if inland and the Coastguard if at the coast. The service is also asking parents to talk to their children about the risks of open water and share the advice. CRIME I have attached reference numbers to each crime report. If you live in the vicinity of any of the crimes mentioned and have CCTV or a video doorbell, can you please check the footage. If you have any that might be of interest to the police, can you please make contact with us, quoting reference number given.
