Title: Berkshire coronavirus latest sees surge of almost 400 new cases in 24 hours

Berkshire recorded another coronavirus death and 483 cases in the latest daily update.

According to the latest Public Health England figures one more person died in Bracknell Forest within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test.

The latest spike in cases means there have now been 94,540 coronavirus infections across the county since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past day the largest increase came in Wokingham where there were 92 new cases, bringing the total for the local authority area to 15,200.

Elsewhere in Windsor and Maidenhead there were 90 new positive tests, West Berkshire recorded another 80 new cases, and Slough 77.

In Reading there were 75 new cases while the lowest in Berkshire was in Bracknell Forest where there were 69.

The Government said a further 40 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 136,208.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 160,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 37,960 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Here are the latest rolling seven-day coronavirus infection rates per 100,000 people in Berkshire for the week ending September 21:

Reading: 295 (up from 288.8 )
Windsor and Maidenhead: 364.2 (up from 351 )
Slough: 282.1 (down from 284.1 )
Bracknell Forest: 235.7 (up from 253.2)
Wokingham: 277.7 (up from 271.9 )
West Berkshire: 228.4 (up from 213.3 )
