Title: Crime Update
Post by: Thames Valley Police on October 20, 2021, 07:25:31 PM
FIRST:  DIPPERS IN OUR TOWN CENTRES:

Please be on your guard, we have seen a sudden spike in ‘Dippers’ – pickpockets – active in both town centres.  Please make sure your purses / wallets and mobile phones are well protected.    This means handbags on long straps, worn diagonally across the body.  No open type beach bags, which someone can easily reached into from behind containing your valuables.  More importantly – be aware of who is around you – particularly in crowded places.  One person bumps into you causing a distraction, another pinches the item and passes it to a third person who disappears into the crowd.  PLEASE ALSO REMEMBER – THE LIMIT ON CONTACTLESS DEBIT CARDS – HAS NOW BEEN INCREASED TO £100 !!!

DON’T LET IT BE YOU.

NEXT HALLOWEEN AND BONFIRE NIGHT IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.  I have attached some posters and fliers you may find useful.

With regard to Bonfires, I have received this really good advice from Dawn:

Hello Jeff,

I read the useful information regularly.

Regarding bonfire advice, I wonder if you could pass on to the residents that bonfire piles should be checked to make sure that a hedgehog has not used it as a shelter. Thanks very much
Dawn

NEXT:  ANOTHER KEYLESS RANGE ROVER STOLEN THIS MORNING.  The GPS tracked it though to Staines and on further before disappearing.  This is part of a series and RBWM is being targeted – so – if you have a high performance keyless entry car – particularly dark coloured Land Rovers, you must take extra precautions at this time.

Keyless fobs – MUST BE KEPT IN A FARADAY CAGE TIN CONTAINER AT ALL TIMES – UNLESS YOU ARE DRIVING.  If you don’t have one – keep them in a fridge !  The Faraday Cage devices come in two forms – a soft pouch and a small metal container made for contactless debit cards.  Simply remove the debit card sleeves and keep the key inside.

The thieves use a ‘Relay Device’, which boosts the signal from inside the house if the fob is unprotected, to the car.  The car believes the fob is inside, lights up and can be started and driven away.  The whole process takes seconds.

We can track cars using ANPR – Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, strategically placed around the Borough.  The thieves know this, so come with a set of fake plates, which they ‘Blu Tac’ / ‘Quick tac’ over the original plates, covering them to block ANPR.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON to all Land / Range Rover owners you know !

LAST – BUT BY NO MEANS LEAST:  MEN'S MATTERS - A SOCIAL GROUP FOR MEN OVER 50 !

Hi Jeff,

Can you promote our new film please.  There are many groups for women in RBWM, but few ways of men to get together and share experiences.  This is a brilliant social experience for all men over 50 who live in RBWM

Paul Samuels

Men’s Matters is a social group for older men and was formally established in 2017 and operates in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Isolation: the emerging crisis for older men

The UK population is ageing at a significant rate. The number of people aged 65 and over will increase by more than 40% within 20 years.

This has led to an emerging crisis for older men, of isolation and loneliness. Society will need to adapt to meet the unique needs of older men. That is what Men’s Matters is trying to do in the Royal Borough.

What keeps us happy and healthy as we go through life?

The longest study on happiness conducted by The Harvard Study of Adult Development found that people who are more socially connected to family, to friends, and to community, are happier, physically healthier and live longer. And the experience of loneliness turns out to be toxic.

Gentle Chair Exercise for the Older Man

In the aging population, exercise has been shown to prevent disease, lower the risk of falls, improve mental health and well-being, strengthen social ties and improve cognitive function…...and are also great FUN!!
