It's not clear when the fatality, which occured in Slough, actually took place as an error in the Government's recording system yesterday (October 23) meant there was no local breaakdown of deaths. More than 700 new Covid-19 cases have also reported in Berkshire within 24 hours. West Berkshire had the highest number of coronavirus cases in Berkshire in the last 24 hours with 171 positive tests returned and its total number of cases now stands at 21,338. The area with the lowest number of cases in 24 hours was Bracknell Forest with 72 new cases which takes its total since the pandemic began to 14,241 overall. Meanwhile, all areas in the county still have an infection rate above the England average. The latest rolling seven-day coronavirus infection rates per 100,000 people in Berkshire are for the week ending October 19 and show that West Berkshire had the highest infection rate, of 939. The lowest infection rate in the county is in Bracknell, with 487.3, while the England average for the same period is 482.9. The Government said a further 72 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday, bringing the UK total to 139,533. Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 164,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. As of 9am on Sunday, there had been a further 39,962 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said. Government data up to October 23 shows that of the 95,226,529 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,684,322 were first doses, a rise of 36,171 on the previous day. Some 45,542,207 were second doses, an increase of 29,804.
