Title: How many active Covid cases there are in every Berkshire area?
Post by: Cookham v Coronavirus on November 02, 2021, 03:15:59 PM
As of 5am on Tuesday, November 2, the data shows as many as 1,224,593 Brits could be infected with "symptomatic Covid".

The study relies on submissions from users documenting their symptoms, which means it can track active cases where people are showing symptoms but have not taken tests.

The data shows the number of reported active cases rose by more than 116,000 across Britain over the last week.

They show there could be more than 10,000 active cases across Berkshire.

The rate is calculated in each area by taking the number of active symptomatic cases as a proportion of the number of people contributing to the study, and working out the number of cases that would be ongoing in an area with a million people.

So, for example, the data show's Reading's infection rate per million people as an estimated 15,424.

The figure in West Berkshire, one of the county's Covid hotspots is an estimated 12,599 per million people.

Bracknell Forest's figure is an estimated 11,740, Wokingham's is an estimated 14,722 and Windsor and Maidenhead's is an estimated 15,467.

There was no data available for Slough.

The difference between these figures and those released by Public Health England is that this data involves people who might not have been tested for coronavirus, which means they are based on what symptoms people are experiencing, rather than official tests.

The number of estimated active cases in Berkshire

Bracknell Forest: 1,419 (Infection rate per million people 11,740)
Reading: 2,500 (Infection rate per million people 15,424)
Slough - no data available due to "not enough contributors"
West Berkshire: 1,981 (Infection rate per million people 12,599)
Windsor and Maidenhead 2,308 (Infection rate per million people 15,467)
Wokingham: 2,452 (Infection rate per million people 14,722)

However, the latest official data from Public Health England show the number of cases in Berkshire is falling across the county.

In the week leading to Thursday, October 28, every area of Berkshire saw a drop in their infection rates per 100,000 people.

Of the 377 local areas in the UK, 64 (17 per cent) have seen a week-on-week rise in rates and 313 (83 per cent) have seen a fall.
