Title: Crime Update Post by: Thames Valley Police on February 16, 2022, 06:10:47 PM VERY GOOD 48 HOURS !
NO BURGLARIES TO REPORT AND NO CARS BROKEN INTO IN FACT NO CRIME IN MAIDENHEAD TO REPORT ! FIRST: Two Keyless Land Rover Discovery’s stolen in Ascot. Over the last few days 14/2 – 15/2 Monday 11 p.m. / Tuesday 8 a.m. Red wood Drive. White keyless Land Rover Discovery index LM ** MAY stolen from outside a house. All the video doorbells in the are appear to have been disabled during the theft ???? Ref. No: 43220069805 15/2 Tuesday 6p.m. Furlong Drive. Black Land Rover Discovery index RO ** DVY stolen. The tracker was activated which showed a reading in Sheepcote Lane, Maidenhead, where some items from the car and index plates were found, but not the car. Ref. No: 43220071690 After speaking to a techy, they recommended that anyone with one of these makes / models of car, continually being stolen, that they add additional security to the car, in the form of a 3rd party tracking system – to ‘Low Jack’ the car ! The professional thieves know where the manufacturer’s tracking systems are in the car and remove or disable them. They would not anticipate a 3rd party additional system ! A simple inexpensive temporary back up precaution – and this goes for anyone needing to track anything discretely, is to buy an Apple Airtag. These were designed to put on our keyrings, to find your car keys ! They do though have a multitude of other uses. Sewn into a jacket of someone with dementia, would track them if they left the house. People put them in parcels they are sending – the tracking is brilliant ! They are small and can of course be hidden inside a car, as a supplemental tracking system, the thieves may not anticipate to look for. These work on a very clever principle. The Airtag sends out a signal, which will be picked up by anyone’s iPhone, who is nearby. That iPhone, sends a signal, to the owner’s iPhone and I believe android phones now as well. The advantage, is that these Airtags, work anywhere in the world, if anyone standing nearby, has an iPhone ! If the car is stolen and placed in a container, the signal will of course be lost, but as soon as the car emerges, anywhere in the world and an iPhone is nearby, the tracker will activate and send the location to the car’s owner. There is though always a remedy ! Anyone, can in fact, download an App which scans for Airtags in the vicinity. There has been press coverage of incidents where Airtags have been dropped into handbags, to track people – hence the development of the App. A simple inexpensive back up system, may reassure owners of these targeted cars. If you have a keyless entry car - please remember to keep the fob away from the front door - AND - in a faraday cage pouch / tin !!! NEXT: SORRY TO SAY – YET ANOTHER SEXTORTION ! A young man in his 20s, was on a dating site and met an attractive, what appeared to be a woman from the Philippines. They then moved onto WhatsApp, for various video conversations. Intimate acts then took place. Immediately, the young man received demands for money. The demands were accompanied by footage, showing the ‘woman’ sending the videos to family and friends. So far, none of them have said they have received anything. The scammer demanded £300, but after conversation, reduced that to £120. The young man sent £127 by mobile phone. Everyone in his family is now really concerned. You know the message Do not say …………………………………..which you would not be happy for everyone in your contact list to see. You know it makes sense and you can only imagine the worry and concern these cases cause ! Remember – very few of these cases are ever reported to us !!
