This is a group of over 45 voluntary organisations offering support to residents in RBWM. We all find that communication about what is available is the issue they all have. So many groups are doing brilliant work, which no-one knows about. I have asked each of the participants to let me have details of what they provide and who could receive those services and I will circulate details as I receive them. A lot are about building communities and assisting vulnerable, isolated people, particularly as a result of Covid isolation Maidenhead Food Share - MAIDENHEAD FOODBANK, PROVIDES EMERGENCY FOOD TO PEOPLE IN CRISIS. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill or are on a low income. A simple bag of food makes a big difference. Maidenhead Foodbank provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill or are on a low income. A simple bag of food makes a big difference. WHO DONATES FOOD Schools, churches, Supermarkets, businesses and individuals donate food to us at the Maidenhead Foodbank. We have a team of volunteers who can pick up food parcels from around the area. Large collections often take place as part of Harvest Festival and Christmas celebrations. FOOD IS SORTED AND STORED Volunteers sort food and pack it into bags ready to be given to people in need. PROFESSIONALS IDENTIFY PEOPLE IN NEED Foodbanks partner with a wide range of care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB, SMART and the police to identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. CLIENTS RECEIVE FOOD Foodbank clients bring their voucher to the Maidenhead foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days’ emergency food. We are able to deliver food bags to the elderly or people who are unable to get to us. Anyone can refer someone who is in need. The basic criteria is - anyone that is not eating one meal a day, but no-one is turned away. They receive vouchers, but 30% are never redeemed, for whatever reasons. One of the major reasons is ‘Shame’. People in need are often blamed and shamed – that their need, is their own fault. The Food Bank is trying to deal with that and offer additional support. Another issue, is that the people who need this service often cannot get to the support outlets. The Maidenhead Foodbank will now deliver - DISCRETELY. They are also organising a confidential help line – so that anyone who feels shame – can ring them and receive a sympathetic approach to their issues. It is OK to ask for help – is their message. The PNA is a statutory document that assesses the need for pharmaceutical services within an area. As part of this we want to capture the views of residents around how they use their pharmacy and we have developed a user friendly survey for this. Please have your say by completing the survey at https://www.berkshirepublichealth.co.uk/information-centre/pharmaceutical-needs-assessment/ Below are some frequently asked questions and answers: Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) What is the purpose of the PNA? The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) is a document which records the assessment of the need for pharmaceutical services within a specific area. The PNA sets out to understand the population health needs of an area by considering what pharmaceutical services are currently being provided and any gaps in any pharmaceutical services What is the purpose of the consultation? The purpose of the public engagement consultation is to see how the public are currently using their pharmacy to understand the needs of the population within that area. Which groups are being included in the initial consultation? The survey is open to all, and we wish to take a whole population approach to understand how the public use their pharmacy. Which targeted groups are being included in the initial consultation? In the first instance we wish to take a whole population approach, but where we find gaps in protected characteristics, the target group may include, BAME community groups as there is a high representation of these groups, and can be harder to reach. What are the methods of the consultation and the timeframe? We have an online survey which is easy access on all electronic devices, and we can also provide paper copies. The survey is currently open and closes on the 28th February 2022. The Wellbeing Circles Project is delivered in collaboration with the NHS Social Prescribing Service and a local voluntary group, Maidenhead Magpies. Individuals wishing to use the services on offer, need to provide their consent to enter the Wellbeing Circle network. Social workers will make referrals to the NHS Social Prescribing Service, who will then work in partnership with Maidenhead Magpies to contact the individual, to arrange the completion of an assessment of the services and networks the individual may benefit from using. A “Getting to Know Me” form. A wellbeing circle will be formed for the individual, based on their needs and interests arising from the assessment. Voluntary groups and organisations will be contacted via Maidenhead Magpies.
