FIRST:   A VARIATION ON THE STANDARD ‘COURIER SCAM’ – NOT TO CONFUSE IT WITH THE USUAL COURIER FRAUD !

The victim was contact on Instagram by a woman and later moved across to using WhatsApp.

The initial conversation was about investing in crypto currency. The victim was asked to sign up to multiple ‘Apps’ which she did.  She was also asked to provide the scammer with her personal details, including her DOB, address and passport number.

Later, victim was persuaded to take out 3 mobile phone contacts – which included 3 brand new iPhones

The victim was told that parcels would be delivered to her address the next day, but she was not to open them.

She has become suspicious of this and when they arrived, took them to her bank.  They were opened, revealing the three brand new iPhones.

The bank closed her account to protect it and a new bank account was created.

She then started to receive threatening phone calls to recompense the scammers with £1500 as they did not have the phones.

The victim told the scammer not to contact her again and has informed them that she won’t be paying them and that all information has been passed to the Police. She is also going to be going to all the providers of the phone contracts and will be cancelling them so that she isn't out of pocket.

The police have now been involved and tracking the various phone numbers and websites used.

PLEASE BE ON YOUR GUARD, PARTICULARLY IF YOU GET COLD CALLS FOR WHATEVER REASON – YOU HAVE NO IDEA, WHO IS ON THE OTHER END OF THE PHONE !!!!  AND ….. NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOU DON’T KNOW ON THE PHONE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION.

The Community Fund supports voluntary and community groups assisting both the PCC and Thames Valley Police in helping to prevent crime and keep communities safe.

Organisations from across Thames Valley can apply for grants for projects that support one of the PCC’s ‘Police and Criminal Justice Plan’ priorities:

Strong Local Policing (preventing crime & protecting communities)
Fighting Serious Organised Crime (protecting vulnerable people)
Fighting Fraud & Cybercrime (fighting modern crimes)
Improving the Criminal Justice System (reducing re-offending)
Tackling illegal encampments (reducing the impact of encampments)

NEXT:  Healthwatch Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead has launched a survey to understand the experiences of South Asian unpaid carers in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The results of the survey will be anonymously shared with NHS and Local Authority commissioners so that services can be better in the future.
Our aim is to Identify:
·        What support services the south Asian carers are currently able to use
·        What additional or specific needs South Asian carers have
·        What services can do more of to support South Asian carers

26/2  Saturday 10.40 a.m.  Welbeck Road.  The owner heard a noise and went to investigate.  They saw a man damaging and kicking a neighbour’s car.  The offender immediately made off.  Ref. No:  43220088030
25/2  Friday 8.45 a.m.  Moor End.  White van has been driving up and down the road several times, looking up and down driveways and removing items from skips.  Ref. No:  43220085438
25/2 – 26/2  Friday 11 p.m. / Saturday 7 a.m.  Farmers Way.  Black Range Rover index LD ** LLN, stolen from outside a house.  Ref. No:  43220087111.  The thieves are fully aware of the tracker systems in these cars.  Think about installing a 3rd party tracking system – they won’t know is there, or at least purchase some Apple Airtags and hide them in the car – they are very inexpensive !!!
