COOKHAM REGATTA – FUN FOR ALL
(AND LAST DATE FOR COOKHAM REGATTA RACE ENTRIES)

(Event takes place on Saturday September 2rd)

Regatta preparations set for a bumper event

• Saturday September 2rd, from 10.00AM to 5.30PM
• Attendance of around 3000 expected
• All proceeds to mainly local charities
• Organised by Rotary Clubs of Cookham Bridge, Maidenhead Thames and Marlow Thames
• A great family day by the river - plenty of fun events
• Deadline for race entries is Wednesday 31st August

The Rotary Clubs of Cookham Bridge, Maidenhead Thames and Marlow Thames this week confirm the final arrangements for the Cookham Regatta. The event will take place on Saturday September 2nd - the first race starts at 10.00AM and the event closes at 5.30PM.

Keith Miller, Regatta Committee Chairman comments: “This is a great annual fun event for families, friends and organisations alike. And we in turn provide funds for - and raise awareness about - charities both at home and overseas.” The lead charity this year will be the One Can Trust – providing support to local families struggling to feed themselves in these difficult times. More information on the charity can be found on:

www.onecantrust.org.uk

A wide range of other mainly local charities will also benefit.

Keith went on to say: “Throughout the day there will be a variety of races on the river and all sorts of teams will have a go at competing in dragon boats. The deadline for race entries is looming and we encourage teams to go to the website and register as soon as is possible.” He added: “Team entries will be accepted on a first come basis - so check out the options on the website and get your entry in as soon as you can”.

Interested organisations and teams will find full details on:

www.cookhamregatta.org.uk
In addition to the river competitions there will be a wide range of land-based activities – appealing to all ages. These will include various attractions just for kids, fair rides, classic car display, fun dog show, charity stalls, a range of children’s activities, a silent auction, brass band, a good selection of food stalls and much, much more. Keith also recommends bringing your dog along and entering it into the various show categories. You never know - Pooch might just win and earn the family a very modest prize!

A brass band will also entertain as attendees enjoy a variety of interesting food stalls, a tea tent, bar and Pimms tent. All available throughout the day.  But if you want to bag a riverside spot - you need to get there early!

The organisers are delighted with the support received from local organisations, and yet again the Shanly Foundation has taken on the role of lead sponsor. Their generosity has allowed the event planning to proceed without risk, and will eventually benefit many smaller charitable organisations.

Families can benefit from a family ticket (just £12 for 2 adults and 2 children). Otherwise adult entry is £6 and child entry £2.

Full details can be found on www.cookhamregatta.org.uk

From Brian Upward

URGENT please if anyone picked up my phone around 3/3.30pm today between the stream and the hill near the tennis courts at WOOBURN PARK I really really need it returned. A reward will be given! lease share this post on any local pages!
I went back on my tracks 5/10 minutes after it dropped out of my pocket and the park was not busy, but phone was no where to be seen. I would be forever grateful if someone has it!

Visitors to Cookham Abbey should be aware that wheelchair users are very welcome to the site but that whilst there are no gradients in the Paddock the surface is a bit lumpy and some soft squishy areas where there has been a lot of rain this summer. This is just to make people aware so they can take this into consideration when planning their visit.

Sustainable road repair technology used by Royal Borough in expanded trial

A sustainable and efficient way of repairing wear and tear in roads, including potholes, is being used in an expanded trial by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.

A specialist thermal infrared heater, specifically designed to be used on highways, is used to quickly heat up the existing asphalt surface in need of repair. It is then easily reworked using hand tools before a rejuvenator and fresh material is added to the heated asphalt. The area is then reprofiled level with the surrounding road surface and compacted.

The improvements are being carried out by the council’s highways contractor, VolkerHighways. The infrared technology is being used for repairs by ‘recycling’ the existing material in sections of Coronation Road and New Mile Road, Ascot, Perrycroft and Bulkeley Avenue, Clewer, Spring Lane, Cookham Dean, Eton Wick Road, Eton Wick, Sturt Green, Holyport and in Littlefield Green.

Work will also be undertaken in King Street, Oaken Grove, and Headington Road, Maidenhead, Burfield Road, Old Windsor, Charters Road, Sunningdale, Bagshot Road and Larch Avenue, Sunninghill and Coppermill Road in Wraysbury.

The locations have been selected due to the condition of the roads, and the majority of work will be completed under partial or full lane closures, with traffic management in place.

This expanded trial, taking place over the summer months, is being funded using money awarded by the Department for Transport, and follows a limited trial on the A30 London Road, Sunningdale in December 2021.

Councillor Geoff Hill, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “We now have the opportunity to use this technology in an expanded trial to tackle road repairs in the borough. We are committed to exploring and using alternative, more sustainable and efficient ways to keep our highways in good working order and the benefits of this technology are far-reaching.

“This process is more energy-efficient, is less labour-intensive resulting in greater productivity, and eliminates the need for excavation making it safer and easier for access requirements. It is also more environmentally friendly with zero material going to landfill and delivers carbon savings compared to traditional construction. There are also benefits for residents with less noise and vibration, no dust and fewer people working on site.

“This technology supports our drive as a borough to reach net zero carbon emission by 2050 at the latest, as well as improve the way we provide services for residents.”

Other benefits of the infrared system include the increased durability of repairs by eliminating weaknesses created by additional joints in the surface.

Fresh material is added to the heated surfaces at 170ᴼC ensuring all materials are at exactly the right temperature. This means they ‘fuse’ together eliminating the risks associated with ‘cold’ joints and possible failure.
