INSPECTOR APPROVES STATION COURT APPEAL
Despite the best efforts of The Cookham Society, The Parish Council, Ward Councillors and numerous individual residents objecting strongly to this overbearing block of terraced houses the Inspector has surprisingly approved the application and planning permission granted.

The Society does not object to the use of this site for housing but this proposal, like the previous one, is trying to squeeze too much onto a small site which is highly visible to the public from both sides. The design does not blend with its surroundings. This is sad day for Cookham.

Maidenhead United FC agreed in 2022 to buy land at Braywick Park for £460,000.

However, Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead dropped the deal on 27 July after 22 members of the public wrote formal objections.
Members of the council's cabinet said the benefits of the new stadium were outweighed by the loss of public open space.

The National League club had agreed to move out of its current home in York Road, which has been in use since 1871 and is the oldest continuously-used football ground in the world.

It would have bought nine acres (four hectares) or nearly a quarter of Maidenhead's largest public open space, which is already occupied by several sports facilities.

The price of the three-course a la carte menu at Tom Kerridge's flagship Marlow restaurant The Hand and Flowers will rise from £155 to £175 on September 1, according to a notice on the pub's website.

A spokesperson for The Hand and Flowers said the decision to increase the price of the menu had "not been taken lightly" and was a direct result of the increased costs facing the business.

A controversial battle by a small business to keep one of its buildings after failing to seek council permission in advance has been settled.

The Arcade in the High Street Cookham is the site of a few small businesses and is a historic part of Cookham’s conservation area.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, a derelict shed towards the rear was refurbished, covering about 12sqm – and was being used as an independent office by a small business.

Last year, there was a retrospective planning application for the business to be allowed to keep operating from the building.

MAIDENHEAD COMMUNITY WATCH ASSOCIATION

Security Items for Vulnerable & Elderly

Maidenhead Community Watch Association (MCWA), as part of its commitment to fostering a safe and secure community, has successfully initiated this project and wishes to introduce it to more participants..

The safety of your home and your overall well-being are of paramount importance. That's why we are offering a free Home Security Assessment to residents within Maidenhead. .

This initiative is being financially supported by generous assistance from The Prince Philip Trust Fund, Thames Valley Police Windsor & Maidenhead LPA, the Louis Baylis Trust and Maidenhead Lions.

The first step is a free home security survey, to be conducted by a trained operator, who will assess the security of your property for any potential vulnerability and will then make recommendations on how you can improve your safety and security.

On offer are various security items such as alarms, timers, fake TVs, etc, all of which are available, at no cost, courtesy of MCWA, for those who cannot afford to purchase their own.  Further, we can supply and fit, with the help of our volunteer tradesmen, additional security items such as fake cameras, door chains and exterior lights.

To benefit from the above, you will need to -

Reside in Maidenhead and be considered as Vulnerable or Elderly

What do we mean by Vulnerable or Elderly?

A vulnerable adult is defined as someone who can’t easily take care of themselves or it might be someone who is unable to protect themselves against significant harm or exploitation.

Elderly, for the purposes of this project, means over 80 years of age.

Your safety matters to us, and together, we can build a safer and more resilient community.

If you would like to have a free home security survey, we would be delighted to hear from you.   Contact  -  jrdmcw@gmail.com

From the Advertiser

Cookham neighbours showed up in support of Strande Park residents on Saturday where unwanted and unexpected clearance works have been taking place in the past week.

People living in the park home neighbourhood have called the Advertiser reporting that hedges and fences are being destroyed by workers against the will of occupiers.

Multiple sources living in Strande Park – who all wish to remain anonymous, and include many elderly and disabled people – have expressed being shaken up by the way things have been done.

First Winners in the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery

Last Saturday (29 July) saw the first draw of the new Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery, an exciting new fundraising initiative launched by the council for good causes across the borough.

To celebrate the first draw of the community lottery, there were two additional special prizes won by two local residents – for one a luxury spa session at the Fairmont Windsor Park Hotel and for another, an overnight stay at the MacDonald Windsor Hotel. Fourteen local players each also won three free tickets to play in the lottery because they matched two of the numbers drawn.

1,043 tickets were entered into Saturday’s first draw for the 69 local good causes across the borough already signed-up to benefit from the lottery.

Councillor Joshua Reynolds, cabinet member for communities and leisure, said: “Congratulations to our first winners. They, and the rest of the lottery players are making a huge difference to the grassroots good causes across the borough.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has joined the lottery so far, and we encourage anyone who wants to support a good cause to take part. When you buy your ticket on the lottery website you can see the full list of local good causes you can support. There’s a huge range of different groups on there. Something for everyone.”

The community lottery is a great opportunity for Royal Borough residents to directly support, in a fun way, local grassroots good causes of their choice, plus have the chance to win cash prizes. Up to 60% of each £1 ticket sale goes to the local good cause they nominate. And you don’t have to live in the Royal Borough to play the Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery, though you can only choose to support the local good causes signed up.

Windsor Horse Rangers, Maidenhead & District Stroke Club, and the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service are currently at the top of the local good causes fundraising board. Just behind them are the Alzheimer’s Dementia Support Charity, Lilliput Learners Pre-School, Swan Lifeline and Wessex Primary School PTA.

The Windsor & Maidenhead Community Lottery draws take place weekly on Saturday nights. For more details on how to play, or sign up as a good cause, visit the borough’s community lottery website.

And on Saturday 26 August, there’s also the chance to win an Apple MacBook Air in the lottery’s summer draw.
