Work to construct an adventure play area in Higginson Park Marlow began on June 5, with Buckinghamshire Council predicting it would take around seven weeks to complete.

Clive Harriss, cabinet member for culture and leisure, originally said work on the playground would be complete by July 24, however a representative for Buckinghamshire Council has now confirmed it will be open to the public on the week commencing July 31.

The demolition of Broadway Car Park could be given the go-ahead next week after planning officers warned the facility is ‘beyond economic repair’.

The ageing car park has been closed since New Year’s Eve and work has been ongoing with contractors and specialists to fully the assess the crumbling structure.

A report, set to be discussed by the Royal Borough cabinet on Thursday, July 27, is now recommending the car park should be torn down.

If demolition is approved, levelling and clearance of the site is expected to get underway in the autumn and will take approximately a year to complete.

Controversial plans for a housing development featuring up to 330 homes and a new primary school at Spencer’s Farm have been refused.

At a Maidenhead Development Management Committee meeting on Wednesday night, attendees applauded speakers and panel members as they raised concerns over the proposals, including impact on traffic and wildlife, the emergency access and the flood risk.

Free swimming sessions for local teenagers this summer to aid water safety

Young people aged 13 to 17 years old will be able to enjoy free swim sessions at two popular leisure centres during the school summer holidays, thanks to a water safety initiative.

Leisure Focus, our leisure operator, in collaboration with local partners including the council itself, is launching its “Safe Summer Swim” initiative, with a mission to reduce the risk of young people getting into trouble in lakes and rivers.

The programme offers free one-hour fun swim sessions for 13- to 17-year-olds at Windsor Leisure Centre and Braywick Leisure Centre (weekdays only), from Monday 24 July to Friday 1 September, making swimming accessible and promoting water safety.

With up to 40 spaces available per session, this initiative seeks to provide local teenagers with an opportunity to learn essential water safety skills, improve their swimming abilities, and foster a greater appreciation for water-related activities.

Safe Summer Swim is funded by Leisure Focus Trust, Louis Baylis Trust, Shanly Homes, Baylis Media CIC, and the Royal Borough.

We are into the last 10 days of our attempt to fundraise to future proof Longridge! I am sure anyone who has been down recently will have noticed how flood damaged the majority of our buildings are and will know how desperately we need to do this. We have secured some match funding but in order to receive this we need at least 100 supporters – so truly, any donation, even £1, helps!

Please support us here so we can make sure Longridge is still here to provide outdoor adventures for everyone for years to come - BIG Adventures for young people - a Sports crowdfunding project in Marlow by amanda.foister (crowdfunder.co.uk) https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/big-adventures-1/

If you do donate, be sure to claim a reward as lots of lovely local businesses have been kind enough to support us and so I want to make sure those all get claimed.

And if you are able to share this with anyone, please do so. I am really struggling to get the word out and know that not everyone has even a £1 to spare – so please forward this on if you can.

From Harriet Clare Pleming

Hello my name is Harriet and I am fundraising to get legal advice and a traffic report/modelling so that we can scrutinise the planning application for 200 houses in Cookham, due in early this summer. We are under threat from a number of new developments growing up around us. Each site assesses the traffic impact it will create, but what we need is to look is the very real effect of all of them put together. I have examined traffic figures from an academic that I believe to show the amount of traffic has been vastly underestimated. However, Planning requires an independent traffic report to be valid for evidence. This is crucial in the review of the application for 200 new houses being built in Cookham Rise. There will be a lot more traffic and Cookham only has a one-way bridge for it to cross over, a recipe for tailbacks and possibly gridlock. There will be increases in pollution and traffic using one-way country lanes as drivers avoid traffic crossing the bridge. I have donated £250 to get things rolling. If any money is not spent, I will donate it to a Cookham charity. The traffic assessment would take place in September, when schools return, so it is a true reflection. To ensure I don't take the money for myself, Doug Fawell, formerly of Softcat who lives locally, has kindly agreed to verify monies going in and out of the account.

Please give what you can afford and don't mind losing. It is a chance I am willing to take, because this is the biggest thing to happen to Cookham in 50 years and I'm not convinced it is necessary for locals.

Hi Everyone,

I am doing some research into the psychology of littering, and would like to hear views specifically about why people leave dog poo bags in the countryside.  On the face of it, it seems odd to go to effort of bagging the poop, but then deciding to leave it, often in plain sight.  This implies that an owner recognises the need to clean up after one's pet, but does not feel compelled to dispose of the bag complete with contents..

This is an un-scientific survey, but some reasons could be:
1. Expect someone else to pick it up (the council, national trust, woodland trust..)
2. Forgot to pick it up whilst on a circular walk
3. Have 'bio-degradable' bags (which don't actually degrade in the open countryside)
4. other reasons..

Would appreciate your views.
