FIRST: This happened in Ascot – but the advice is useful for everyone:
ASCOT:
14/5 Saturday 2.45 a.m. Coronation Road. Attempted burglary. The owner was awoken by a noise and went to investigate. They looked out and could see torchlight and two figures outside. They found the rear door open, but no-one inside the property. They ran outside and saw a black, hybrid Porsche driving away. If you hear someone in the house – what do you do ! You do not go down with a baseball bat ! You turn the lights on, turn up a radio loud, put a chair under the door handle and lock the door – shout for someone to release the Alsatian and dial the police on 999 and explain there is a possible burglary in progress. This is why you always take your mobile phone up to bed with you – landlines, may have been cut ! You do not go down and confront an intruder, or put yourself at risk. That is a job for the police

15/5 Sunday 8.30 p.m. Conkers, Ray Park Avenue. There was a tapping on the back door . The owner didn’t open the door, but called out hello . A very young sounding woman said that a strange cat had got into her garden and as she saw that the owner had a cat flap, she wondered if she had lost her cat . The owner asked her to describe the cat. The description did not match their cat and added that their cat was a tabby. The woman the said that it could be a tabby. The owner asked if the cat was injured and the woman said no. the owner then asked the woman - where is your garden ? She said next door . The owner knew my next door neighbours and this was not one of them. The woman then left. The owner’s cat was sitting in the window, in plain sight from the road. This was very unsettling. Ref.
