The RBWM Youth Ambassadors are running the Youth Voice Youth Choice Funding Scheme competition once again. This is a wonderful opportunity to be in with a chance to win money to help fund local youth projects.
There are four category slots - schools, youth groups, individuals and targeted groups. The maximum prize is £1,500 for groups and £500 for individuals. There is a total fund of £10,000 with two winners in each category.
The competition is now open and we are accepting applications until 5pm Monday 17th June 2019, so now is the time for young people to apply for any project that will benefit them and/or people in their community.
I would encourage young people to apply for funding within any relevant category, for example if a young person attends a youth group: cubs, kayak club, music group, youth club or any other group, they could apply in that category where all attendees would benefit from a project. If they attend a targeted session or fall into a targeted group, they could apply for a project surrounding that such as children in care or learning disability or similarly. If a person has been working on a personal project – sports, music, etc, they could benefit from the cash to support their chosen individual hobby.
If you would like further information I am more than happy to talk to young people or the named adult on the application form to explain the process.

NEXT: There have been some changes to the Thames Valley Association of NHW. That Association, is a support mechanism for all members of NHW as well as anyone who gets Thames Valley Alert messages. Who would perhaps like to set up NHW schemes in their roads. At the bottom of this message is your link to Colin Meads, who is your NHW MSA - ‘Multi Scheme Administrator’ - who will assist you with anything to do with NHW.

I enjoyed our meeting today and it was good to be able to bring you up to date with events in the TVNHW Association.
There has been a considerable change of personnel in the organisation. The Chair of many years, Val McPherson, has resigned and a number of other Committee members also decided, the time was now right to move on.
Stan Jones from Wycombe, is our new Chair and Nikki Barrett from Milton Keynes, is the Vice Chair. I have been elected Secretary and I represent Windsor & Maidenhead.
I am keen to have a fresh start now in NHW in Thames Valley and, in particular, would like to see all our LPAs have at least one Members’ Representative on the Committee. For example, Reading is not represented at all at the moment and this is a shame.
The Committee meets every two months in Thame. The Committee is there to represent all members of Neighbourhood Watch throughout the Thames Valley and we are determined to do so in an open and democratic manner.
Perhaps you might pass this on. Myself and Colin, are here to help, support and assist anyone, with their scheme. NHW is a grass roots organisation and we are there to make a co-ordinators life, as simple as possible.

Just to make you aware that we have had some dodgy double glazing salesmen, trying their luck through door knocking in Maidenhead today. They say they are working with the Council which is not true. They just say this to build confidence and rapport with the victim.
The usual manta applies:
I DO NOT BUY GOODS AND SERVICES AT THE DOOR !
If anyone has signed up for anything, the law gives them a 14 day cooling off period, which we would advise people to exercise, while they shop around instead.

NEXT - a nasty case of BLACKMAIL !
Sometimes people do something without thinking about the possible consequences. We have a real problem, persuading teenagers not to share ‘inappropriate’ photos of themselves - here we have an adult. This issue, actually happened. Please think about your actions, before carrying them out, even in the heat of the moment
The aggrieved was contacted on Facebook Messenger, by a woman he had never met before, or knew. She left a message and they then ‘facetimed’, by video. Initially, the woman was in her underwear, but after a short period of time, she removed her clothes and initiated a flirtatious conversation, with the aggrieved. She then asked him to remove his clothes and despite having no previous contact with her, she requested he carry out a sex act, in front of the camera. This he did !
Footage of this was recorded by the woman or an accomplice, who then made demands via the screen that unless money was paid, the image / video, would be sent to victims Facebook friends and family.
A friend of the victim contacted him, to say that she had seen an image of him on a You Tube video, touching himself with a banner that he is a Paedophile.
Victim has already made several payments over a period of 3 days, in total £1,000 was paid.
PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM - DON’T LET IT BE YOU !

We need Volunteers and mentors for a gardening Project we wish to start in February 2020.

3/6 Monday 4.40 p.m. Farm, The Causeway, Bray. A witness reported seeing someone acting in a suspicious manner on a neighbour’s driveway. They called the police who attended immediately locating someone which matched the description given. After a personal search, he had items from the house and a pair of bolt croppers. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling.
4/6 Tuesday midnight / 10.10 a.m. Ascot Road, Holyport. Wall knocked down and pillar clipped by a car, causing damage overnight.

I had a similar call from HMRC ‘ IRS yesterday, except it was an automated message asking me to call back urgently due to a serious matter.
I just hung up.
I also received a second automated call yesterday from British Telecom, urging me to call, before my broadband was disconnected.
We don’t get our broadband from them!

Many years ago I was a Tax Officer.
One of the jobs I did, was chase "stranded underpayments". That is money owed when someone ceased working, which could not be collected via an adjusted code number, under the PAYE scheme.
The practice was to send a letter to the last known address, giving details of the "debt" & asking the person to get in touch, to make arrangements to pay. The letter always showed the last PAYE reference number & the writers initials - we didn't give out names. In those days HMIT, reached an agreement & the person, then paid the Collector of Taxes according to that.
As to your latest target. No one would owe money from 1973 - there are time limits.
In a "back duty case", the procedure was similar. An inspector would look at the case & then write a letter asking for a meeting. His job was to examine everything, determine what monies were underpaid & what penalties would be imposed. Then a payment time scale, was worked out. Again monies were paid to the Collector of Taxes according to this agreement.
Never, at any time, did HMIT phone anyone for money. Everything was done by letter in the first instance & perhaps meetings later. I doubt whether much has changed since my day, despite modern technology.
A persons dealings with the taxman, were considered private & confidential.
All HMIT staff have to sign the official secrets act.

Scams a-plenty!!
I get repeated calls from ‘BT’ saying my connection has been compromised – dial this ‘premium’ number and wait a long time for details. As most of us use BT lines even if we are with another service provider this sounds quite convincing. The real BT need to do something to stop this happening.
I also sent you a couple of scam emails, one from HMRC and one from Virgin Media. Might not be a bad idea to put these out so that people can see what they look like. The give away of course is the email address and domain from which they come.
