from WildCookham

We have two urgent and important requests to ask of you.

We ask you to write to the Council about their decision to press ahead with opening up nearly 40% of the wildlife-rich land they bought at Battlemead, without pausing to review the plan in the light of their declaration of an Environment and Climate Emergency. The site plan has around 4km of paths in only two fields - access by people and dogs on this scale is absolutely not good for wildlife We are calling on RBWM to keep access to a minimum until they have done that review, and for a full set of ecological surveys to be done through an annual cycle. We are not objecting to access as such - we understand that people will want to go onto the site - but we want it to be as limited as possible and preferably for dogs to be kept out and at the very least, on leads. Please take a moment to write to the council to object (anthony.hurst@rbwm.gov.uk, cc cllr.dudley@rbwm.gov.uk) or do so on social media, @rbwm on Twitter, and on Facebook.

Join us at Battlemead this Saturday, 3 August at 10am.  The Council is opening two of the fields at Battlemead to the public.  As shown above, we believe that the Council has failed to carry out many of the processes which should have happened before reaching this point.  So we are asking for as many Wild Maidenhead and WildCookham supporters possible to come at 10am to the Battlemead site entrance on the A4094 (parking in nearby roads, then cross over to the entrance, see below).  This will show your support for the Wild Maidenhead and WildCookham representatives who, as Friends of Battlemead, will be meeting Councillor Dudley, Councillor Rayner, RBWM officer Anthony Hurst and others there shortly afterwards and using the opportunity to make our views known.  Please come and show that wildlife matters.
