FIRST - YET ANOTHER COURIER FRAUD IN MAIDENHEAD:

21/1  Wednesday 2 p.m.   An elderly resident was called by a man who said he was PC Simmonds, a police officer, based at Hammersmith Police Station.  There was fraud going on at her Building Society, someone was passing counterfeight currency and they need her assistance.  To make sure the call was genuine, could she put the phone down and dial 999 and give his name to the call taker.  This she did and the call taker confirmed that PC Simmonds was a real police officer working in the Fraud Squad.  She was then told to go to her building society and take out her savings - £2,000.  She wasn’t to touch the money as they would fingerprint the notes to see who at the building society was involved.  She did this and was told a man called Chris, would call to collect the money.  She also received a code word, Chris would give her, to show he was genuine.  Chris arrived and collected the cash !
It wasn’t till the next day it dawned on her that she had been scammed and called the police.
