Hi everyone. I am supposed to be working from home, but have come in to complete as much as possible the list of community groups and associations working and volunteering, to help in the crisis.
The list is nowhere near complete, so keep sending details of groups not on the list to me.
I need:
The name of the group / Facebook / Whatsapp / Residents Assoc / WI / Faith Group - anyone that can assist local vulnerable residents during this situation.
The name of the contact person / admin
The numbers within the group
Their contact telephone number
Their email address
I will be sharing this list with all police personnel, as well as the Borough and yourselves, so that you know of the active local groups in your area that can assist and support local vulnerable residents.
I am really grateful for all your support. If I am not in the office, I can access Thames Valley Alert and TVP Facebook on my personal laptop and everyone in the police station, has my personal email and telephone number, to contact me, to send out any urgent messages.
Several people have been in contact with me, to report telephone scam calls. These will increase over the next few months, as more of us are staying at home and not going to work - this increases the pool of possible targets.
For example - this email scam from Susan:
Hi
Re: Netflix scam
I have received a fake email, regarding a sign-up to Netflix. I thought that this was worth highlighting, as many of us could be looking for Netflix entertainment at this time.
It was addressed to 'Hey there', and invited me to click on a link to finish signing up (I already have an account). When hovering over the sender details, I can see this was sent from '
info@mailer.netflix.com'. Obviously I deleted it.
Susan
Exactly right - the scammers will see this as a brilliant opportunity ! Remain alert.
This has just come in from Neil - it is very unpleasant, but expected:
Hi
Just received a variation on the blackmail email scam. Asking for £4000 in bitcoin and threatening to contaminate my whole family with Covid19 unless I paid up.
I binned it, but maybe the elderly might be worried.
Regards,
Neil
Exactly - just bin them !
The list of community groups is increasing, but is not yet exhaustive. Any more you know about - please let me know. I am circulating this list to all police officers as well as RBWM staff. Some at the bottom, have names of groups, but no admin contacts::
