As an online business we’re fortunate that for the moment we’re able - and are being encouraged - to continue operating. While I know that flowers aren't a necessity, I also know that for many people they’re an uplifting way to connect with others when we can’t always be there in person. And I hope we can help to provide moments of comfort by continuing our service for as long as it remains permitted by the Government and safe to do so. Of course, keeping everyone safe, healthy and connected during this uncertain time is a huge priority of mine. So I wanted to tell you what I and my team are focusing on right now.

1. Following all government advice

Making our deliveries safer
Our deliveries will all be contactless. Our letterbox flowers will carry on being posted through the front door (as normal), our hand-tied bouquets will be left safely on the doorstep and you won’t need to sign for anything. Our deliveries are managed through Royal Mail, DPD and a few independent courier companies, who are all also following the latest government guidance to keep everyone safe and well.

Protecting people’s livelihoods
As well as having a duty to keep everyone healthy, I also have a duty to protect my staff and supply partners’ livelihoods at a time of economic difficulty, as long as it remains safe and in line with government guidelines for them to work. Our head office team has now been working from home for almost 2 weeks. And while our flower packing partners can’t work from home, we have very strict health and hygiene measures in place. This means that they can work safely and in line with the latest government advice, which is encouraging online retail to continue, and allowing work to continue where it can’t be done from home.

2. Supporting our community

Supporting those who need it the most
We’ll donate 15% of profits to the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal every time someone buys our Our Florist’s Pick. This incredible trust distributes funding and support to the people who need it most during a national emergency, like this. The Trust will work to distribute the money we raise fairly to local organisations who can help people who are vulnerable or suffering as a result of the outbreak.

Special discount for the country’s frontline workers
We want to thank everyone who takes care of the important people in our lives and works so hard doing so. So if you’re in the NHS, Social Care, Emergency Services or Armed Forces, head here for 40% off our flowers. Or if you want to nominate any key worker who you think deserves to win free flowers, you can do that here too. 10 deserving winners will be randomly selected every week!

Positive pick-me-ups
In our digital world it’s hard to escape the news. Sometimes that can feel quite overwhelming and we need a distraction from being stuck at home. So we’ve started sharing content and uplifting experiences on our emails and social channels that we hope will make you (and your favourite people) smile.

3. Championing thoughtful marketing
I’m so proud that, in March, 87 other businesses joined our Thoughtful Marketing Movement. We’ll be collaborating with this community to come up with more ways we can spread thoughtfulness to all our customers during this uncertain time. So watch this space.
