Debenhams in Reading will not be reopening once lockdown restrictions are lifted, bosses are believed to have confirmed.

The department store struck a deal with landlords to keep most of its 142 locations open after falling into administration for the second time last month.

But the firm has reportedly failed to come to an agreement with shopping centre owner Hammerson.

It means the store at The Oracle in Reading, Berkshire, will not reopen once the government ends social distancing measures introduced to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The former Debenhams site in Reading is to be replaced by a new beauty hall venture from Next.
