From someone who works in a local pub

Just thought I'd string together a summary of the new rules regarding entering pubs and restaurants because it's been clear that not everyone listened to the update given by the government last week. I work in one of the local village pubs and have had to explain to multiple people this weekend so hope this will help!

1. 10pm curfew - most pubs will issue a last orders for drinks about half an hour before closing but best to check with individual establishments before making assumptions. This curfew means the doors MUST be locked at 10pm, so no 10 minute drinking up time anymore unfortunately, please respect this!

2. Face coverings - you MUST (unless medically exempt or a young child) wear a face covering before entering the establishment. You must continue to wear until you are either seated at a table or have left the building, that means you must pop it back on to go to the loo! Staff must also be wearing one - often for up to 6 hours at a time, so count yourself lucky!

3. Table service - this seems to be one of the hardest for people to get used to lol but please stay seated unless you are going to the toilet or leaving. Coming to the bar to ask for another drink or the bill is not allowed. Obviously waiting times might be a bit longer than you're used to, but we try our best! You must also not mingle with other tables, if you would like to catch up please do so outside and off the premises where we are not liable.

4. Rule of 6 - nothing new here but thought I'd include as we've experienced quite a few solo drinkers grouping together. As long as it's no more than 6 from up to 6 different households, that's allowed.

Hope this helps make things clearer for you. Unfortunately no pub or restaurant asked for these rules, they are all government issued. We have been tasked with a huge responsibility to help keep people following these rules, so please don't take offense if we seem a little agitated if we have to tell you to put on a mask or sit down, you're most probably the 10th person we've told that shift! If customers are not following these rules then we are the ones who suffer the consequences with a hefty fine and risk of closure, so please keep that in mind.

On a happier note, I can safely say that we do appreciate everyone who has continued to support the pub industry especially during this awful time!
