Five more people have died at hospitals serving Berkshire and and a further 222 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the county in the past 24 hours.

The new deaths related to Covid-19 were reported at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, NHS figures show.

Almost a third of the new infections were in Slough, which recorded 72 additional cases, followed by Windsor and Maidenhead with a rise of 53.

Today's update from Public Health England (Wednesday, October 28) said that across the UK 942,275 people have now tested positive for Covid-19.

This represents an increase of 24,701 over a 24 hour period.

A further 310 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the UK total to 45,675.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 61,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

This is how the figures break down in terms of cases for each area of Berkshire as of October 27:

Reading : 1,528 cases (increase of 26)
Slough : 1,793 cases ( increase of 72)
Wokingham : 1,248 cases (increase of 24)
West Berkshire : 996 cases (increase of 18)
Windsor and Maidenhead: 1,412 cases (increase of 53)
Bracknell Forest : 864 cases ( increase of 29)
The total number of deaths at NHS trusts in and around Berkshire is 627, as detailed below:

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust: 387 (increase of two)
Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust: 220 (increase of three)
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: 20 (no change)
