Coronavirus in Berkshire round up

More than 800 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Berkshire in the past 24 hours, according to the latest figures.

Public Health England has recorded 832 lab-confirmed cases in the past day in areas including Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Slough, and Windsor and Maidenhead.

These figures, correct as of 4pm on Thursday, January 7, bringing the county's lab-confirmed positive Covid-19 tests total to 34,434.

The local breakdown for the past 24 hours as follows:

Bracknell Forest - 109 cases, 4,499 total
Wokingham - 121 cases, 5,353
Reading - 148 cases, 6,221 total
West Berkshire - 85 cases, 3,912 total
Windsor and Maidenhead - 116 cases, 5,537 total
Slough - 253 cases, 8,912 total

The latest seven-day rate per 100,000 people locally are as follows:

Bracknell - 818.4

Reading - 634.2

Wokingham - 573.3

West Berkshire - 426.

Windsor and Maidenhead - 709.3

Slough - 1,067.9

There have now been 2,889,419 cases of Covid-19 across the UK – as of Thursday, January 7, at 4pm.

There are more than 1,100 new deaths of COVID patients in the UK, according to today's figures.

Matt Hancock said teachers and police officers could get the jab next after all priority groups are vaccinated.

The Health Secretary also said the covid vaccine may need to be taken every six months. Speaking at the virtual Commons committee, he said: "I anticipate that we will probably need to revaccinate because we don’t know the longevity of the protection from these vaccines… It might need to be every six months, it might need to be every year.”
