Covid Delta variant cases in Reading, Wokingham, Slough and other Berks area

More than 1,300 people in Berkshire tested positive for the Delta variant.

Cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant have risen across all areas of Berkshire according to the latest Public Health England statistics.

The data reveals there were a total of 1,384 cases of the Delta variant first identified in India in the week to Wednesday, June 16. That figure is a rise of 476 cases on the previous seven days’ tally in Berkshire of 908 confirmed cases.

Reading remains a hotspot for Delta variant cases, surge testing has been taking place in the town and drop-in vaccine centre has opened at the Civic Offices to get as many people vaccinated as possible in the town's fight against coronavirus.

The drop-in vaccination clinic at the council's office in Bridge Street is open until June 27.

A quarantine hotel for travellers returning from red list countries has been at the centre of an outbreak, with the majority of the cases being the Delta variant. The quarantine facility at the PentaHotel in Oxford Road is now due to close at the end of the month.

While three areas of the town have the highest Covid-19 infection rates in the county, according to Public Health England figures.
