FIRST: I have received this request from Sharon Hatherley from The Cancer Support Network:
Hi Jeff,
Would it be possible to add the below in your next Alert message ?
Thank you
The Cancer Support Network has been established to support people affected by cancer. Meeting other people with similar experiences can be invaluable. The network offers a chance for people to talk to others and come together to share experiences and concerns. We receive referrals from health and social care professionals as well as family, friends and self-referrals. You can get in touch with us or refer via the referral network :
https://services.thejoyapp.com/en/listings/200-cancer-support-networkThe network supports you with any type of cancer with the aim of connecting and bringing together people that have a common purpose, supporting each other.
We offer a range of support which includes:
Monthly meet-ups due to Covid restrictions these are currently offered online via zoom, usually on a Thursday afternoon once a month.
We also have a relaxed coffee morning style meet-up, this is also currently online, usually on a Tuesday morning once a month. When restrictions lift we will have a mix of face-to-face and online events. We are starting in-person meetings in Slough from September.
Group Support Events are focused on exercise, health and wellbeing. We offer a range of events including, walking, yoga, Gigong and meditation.
Peer-to-peer support this is regular support. We have trained Cancer Champion volunteers that have had their own cancer experiences that are able to support you over the phone either on a weekly basis or whenever is suitable. Its an opportunity to talk to someone who knows how you feel.
Signposting this is to ensure that you know about any services that may be of value to you. We regularly share information about services on our social media and in our newsletters.
Online support we have a presence on facebook, twitter and Instagram. We have a private facebook group that is accessible for people that need support in a private and closed environment. We have also got a private WhatsApp group. This means you can communicate at any time.
