Just one area of Berkshire has seen a drop in coronavirus rates as Omicron continues to spread around the county.

Reading has seen its infection rate per 100,000 people slightly drop in the week leading to Monday, December 27.

The borough saw its rate fall from 1,196.2 the previous week to 1,188.1.

The highest rate in Berkshire is in Bracknell Forest, where the rate has risen to 1,501.2 from 1,187.1

Slough's rate is now more than 1,000, rising to 1,040 from 778.9. Windsor and Maidenhead's rate has also risen to 1,448.4 from 1,343.3.

Wokingham has also seen a rise, from 1,219.9 to 1,374.6.

The highest rate in the UK is in Derry City & Strabane in Northern Ireland at 2,213.6 per 100,000 people.

Thurrock in Essex has England's highest rate at 2,098.2.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said he was still reluctant to look at more restrictions around the spread of the virus.

He said: "Curbs on our freedom must be an absolute last resort and the British people rightly expect us to do everything in our power to avert them,” the Health Secretary continued.
