Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is asking everyone to consider how it should respond to Automatic Fire Alarms in lower risk, occupied buildings such as shops, office blocks, and factories.

This public consultation, is being held because 99% of automatic fire alarm calls are false alarms, caused by cooking fumes for example.

The service says up to 1,300 hours of firefighter time could be saved each year, and instead spent on other priority work such as vital training, visiting high-risk properties to help prepare firefighters should they need to respond to an incident there and ensuring more fire engines would be available for emergency incidents.

To learn more and take part in the consultation, which ends on Monday 28 March, visit the RBFRS website. https://www.rbfrs.co.uk/your-service/managing-risk/consultation/current-consultations/
