Windsor and Maidenhead Council (RBWM) has announced that they expect strike action to go ahead today (Wednesday, August 31). Waste collectors are set to strike and whilst the council says that it should be able to collect rubbish and food waste as normal, recycling collections are set to be disrupted.
Garden waste collections will also be suspended during strike action and Stafferton Way Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Maidenhead will be closed. This is so focus can be pulled onto bin collections.
Strikes are taking place as members of the GMB Union are calling for a pay increase. Due to the action, RBWM will only be able to provide half of the normal recycling collections that it usually does.
Roads in Windsor, Maidenhead, Datchet, Wraysbury, and Old Windsor will be affected. The council has said that if your recycling is not collected today, then it will be collected next week as scheduled.
The council has also said that if your recycling is usually collected on a Tuesday but you can't be visited due to strike action then you must put out your bin for next Tuesday. Due to the Bank Holiday weekend, collections this week are being made a day later than normal.
This means that if your bins usually go out on Tuesday, they should go out on Wednesday this week instead. This is where there could be an issue, however, as industrial action is set for Wednesday, August 31, so if your bins are not collected on this day, then you'll need to put them out next Tuesday instead.
